Sr. Carole's letter to those who donated to help the needs in Uganda

  Dear Parishioners,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your most generous donations in "Helping meet the needs of the people in Lwetunga, Uganda."  As a result of your donations, as well as the donations from the parents and children of St. Catharine School, we collected over $28,000.

In addition, throughout the year, our School collected $2,500 to provide lunch for another year for the students at St. Kizito School.  Further, the Student Council raised funds throughout the year and at the graduation ceremony, contributed $2,000 for our "adopted" school.

Independent of the Ugandan Project to which our parishioners contributed, the Carmelites, Renew Groups and St. Catharine School Adult and Children's Rosary Prayer Groups also assisted in supporting orphans in other remote bush areas.  Some SCS students likewise asked that in lieu of gifts for their First Communions, Birthdays and Confirmations that donations be made to assist these orphans.

St. Catharine-St. Margaret Parish supported the Giving Tree Project which provided clothing for the babies in the clinics while other parishioners also continue to donate medicines for the clinics.
Our deacons contributed funds to support the seminarians in St. Kizito Seminary, in the Diocese of Kasana Luweero.

Lastly, many SCS parents contributed funds for my air fare, lodging and transportation expenses for my missionary trip to Uganda.

In total, our parish and school donated over $40,000 to assist the needy in Uganda.
I would like to especially thank Msgr. Luebking and the Social Concerns Committee for their support and assistance in organizing this collection. Also special thanks to Sister Margo Kavanaugh, the PTA, teachers, staff and children of St. Catharine's for warmly hosting Sister Faida.

I am grateful to the Sisters of St. Catharine Convent who provided for Sister Faida's living expenses while she was visiting us in during the month of May.

As of this date, I am happy to report that we have sent over $2,500 for food and water to St. Kizito School, $3,300 to support orphans in the bush area, $1,200 for lunches for the seminarians and $1,000 for other expenses for the seminarians.  We have recently been in contact with Father Leo Bagenda, Consolata Father in charge of St. Kizito School, to begin the work on the borehole for the village of Lwetunga.

I am overwhelmed by the support I have received and continue to receive from all of you.
Father Lawrence, Chancellor of the Diocese of Kasana-Luweero, will be celebrating Mass for all the benefactors of St. Catharine-St. Margaret Parish on July 9th in the Convent Chapel.
He will continue to offer Masses for you throughout the year.

Most gratefully,
Sr. Carole MacKenthun, RSM
