Emergency School Closing - Full Day:
It may be necessary to close school because of inclement weather or a building emergency before the school day begins. Phone calls will not be made to you in the morning.

Morning Delayed Opening:
In an attempt to avoid closing school for the entire school day due to early morning problems we utilize the Delayed School Opening. When this decision is made, it is your responsibility to do the following:
1) Listen for the radio television announcements but please keep in mind that at times these delayed openings may become school closings.

2) Stay tuned to the radio & television when we say that we are delaying the opening of school for possible updates.
3. The success of this plan requires that you listen to your radio and television and/or call the SCS Information Line during that period of time.

Emergency CAN School-Wide Dismissal
In the event weather becomes inclement or there is a school-wide emergency closing during the school day, our emergency dismissal procedure is as follows:

• SCS will notify the bus companies, radio & TV stations, etc.

• Our new CAN emergency phone system will then begin a telephone relay for the youngest child in school. Please refer to the detailed information provided by our PTA. NO CHILD WILL BE RELEASED FROM SCHOOL UNLESS CONTACT IS MADE WITH SOMEONE! Tape machines do not count.

• Every child will then be dismissed according to the instructions on the "SCS Emergency CAN School-Wide Dismissal Procedure" form. (Every family should have the yellow parent copy.)

• Buses will run as usual.

• Car students will be brought to the gym for you to pick up.

• After the buses leave, parents, baby-sitters etc. may enter the building via the front door and report to the gym to pick up the children. Administrators & teachers will be present to insure that the students go home with the designated person.
NO STUDENTS WILL BE RELEASED BEFORE THE STATED DISMISSAL TIME.
LET'S BE PREPARED: If the weather looks intimidating in the morning, it is up to you to review with your child(ren) the established emergency procedure plan before they get to school. The school will enforce the, plan you have written for your child(ren).
We realize that during such emergencies you are very concerned about your child, but please keep in mind that as administrators we are responsible for the well being of your child and 528 others. Please adhere to our policies to ensure the safety of all. Please keep this paper handy for reference during the school year.
